Most of you already know quite a bit about the International Comics Convention held last week in San Diego, because of the massive media coverage that the “geek prom” has earned. You already know what E! Entertainment, G4 Network and if you’re reading from San Diego, all the local networks have shown you. The mobs of comic book fanboys, the thralls of super collectors and masses of parents with their kids all watching the human zoo of the entertainment industry. In total, I think the numbers were something in the order of 150,000 — the San Diego Convention Center sold out each day — and I was there on the front lines with HSD. I got a chance to meet a lot of great people at the show and made some new fans for the game. (more…)

High School Drama is really starting to get the popular recognition that you all have known from the start … so, you better make sure you come visit me at Comic Con!! Trust me when I say that if you’re anywhere even near San Diego during the last weekend of July, you want to make sure you come down to Comic Con before it sells out. And if anything can sell out the San Diego Convention Center, it’s Comic Con! (more…)

Phoenix Comic Con (recap)

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Back from Phoenix Comic Con and I’m exhausted. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to an anime convention, but it was really nice getting back into the swing of it. And I have to say that for a local con, it was a pretty impressive turn out — especially all the CosPlayers out there. There were lots of really gorgeous outfits from everyone’s favorite TV shows, video games and manga. Of course nothing compares to the international comic con that San Diego puts on each summer; but pound per pound, Phoenix Comic Con certainly put on a good show! (more…)

Ohisashiburi da na!

It’s been a while since I’ve been to an Anime Convention and I’m really excited about going to Arizona’s own premiere con up in Mesa this coming weekend. Some of you may not know this, but in college I was actually the Treasurer for our Anime Club on-campus (Cal-Animage Beta Chapter for all you Otaku out there). Those were good days. So, I’m really excited about checking out what’s new out there in anime, rounding out my Ghost In the Shell collection and hopefully enjoying all the great costumes. I’ve always had a soft spot of the CosPlay girls and you can almost always catch me at the masquarade.

And yes, I’ll be running multiple tables of HSD at the con. HSD has always been very popular with the manga crowd because of both the strong art and the high school theme, so I hope to make a lot of new friends at the gaming table. Somehow I think there will be a LOT of drama fighting over who has the Manga Girl and the Anime Club in their cliques! ;-)
